Compounding
At Urumaster Restoration, we specialize in restoring the luster of your boat’s gel coat through our detailed compounding and waxing process. Over time, your boat’s surface can become oxidized, leading to a dull appearance. Our team assesses the level of oxidation and determines the appropriate steps to bring back that mirror-like finish your boat deserves.
Understanding the Levels of Oxidation:
We evaluate the condition of your boat’s surface to decide whether it needs just waxing or a full compounding treatment.

Little Oxidation (Wax Only):
When holding a ruler perpendicular to the surface, you see a mirror-like reflection and can read the numbers clearly. There’s no haze present.

Light Oxidation (Polish/Wax):
With the ruler perpendicular, you can see the reflection of the ruler, but it appears cloudy and you cannot read the numbers. A slight hazy condition is visible.

Heavy Oxidation (Compound/Polish/Wax):
The surface shows little to no reflection when holding a ruler perpendicular, indicating significant oxidation that requires a deeper treatment.
Why Compounding is Essential
Gel coat, made from polyester resins and pigments, oxidizes over time due to UV exposure and weather, leading to a dull finish. Simply waxing an oxidized surface provides only a temporary fix. For a lasting shine, the oxidation must be removed through compounding, which restores the gel coat and allows the wax to bond properly.
